Foodscapades: Chillin’ Restaurant

It’s been way too long since my last post to this category. Way too long. I’ve been to a bunch of restaurants but I haven’t done a review. That is about to change today.

For the last few months, there has been an incessant buzz around the restaurant we’re reviewing today. It was impossible to ignore. Everywhere I looked I saw an advert or an Instagram friend was dining there and posted to their stories. the food looked great and I was only hearing great reviews. I was being reeled in like a good catch.

Chillin’ Restaurant is located where Rib Kage once was. I have a review of Rib Kage on here. I think it was my first foodscapades post. The good old days. I’ll tag it here so you can check it out and get a refresher.

Much like the previous restaurant the location drew me in. It’s ambient sound, the coolness of the evening both welcomed me and made the dining experience unmatched. I couldn’t help but notice the extra effort taken to ensure customer comfort; insect-repelling candles were lit all around the room.

I was happy since the moment I arrived until the moment I left. For more reasons than just the food but the food and service helped. Chillin’ restaurant is one I’d recommend for a tourist who wants to try authentic Jamaican dishes or a Jamaican who enjoys eating good food. Now let’s get into why I’d recommend it.

Taste

We ordered the curry goat waffle bites as our appetizer and the goat delivered on succulence and flavour. However, the waffles were a bit undercooked and bland. We weren’t too disappointed though because we were hungry. For my entree, I had the Peppa Shrimp as it’s justly named served with mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables. It was spicier than expected and I loved it as a result. Not a fan of spice? This is not the dish for you. The mashed potatoes were real and smashed to perfection. the vegetables were cooked till tendered not soggy and had an enjoyable crunch to them. In all honesty, the vegetables gave my tastebuds a well-needed break between each spicy bite I took.

Price

As far as price goes I believe Chillin’ is comparable to most. It might be slightly above average but still quite affordable. Bear in mind, what I ordered was on the more expensive side of the menu. There were definitely more affordable options. We were celebrating so I got something a little fancier than I’d usually get. When I return I’ll be sure to try the popular Murray’s Curried Goat.

Customer Service

Customer service was great. Our server checked onus just the right amount of times during our meal. Upon entry, we were greeted and seated almost immediately. The wait for your meal wasn’t too long either. Actually, the appetizer came out quite quickly. Our server was pleasant and efficient. His name eludes me at the moment but he was great.

This wraps up another Foodscapades restaurant review and I hope it was worth the wait. I think I’m making good on my goal for one review each quarter or more. Let me know if you want more in the comments.
