Things To Do In Jamaica During The Summer

It’s summertime and it’s time to have some fun. Not sure what to do yet? I have some ideas for you in this post. Every year I’ll make plans to go on an adventure to somewhere I’ve never been before during the summer and this year is no different. My bucket list is full of options and it’s time to start ticking them off. While I take on my bucket list here are a few things to do in jamaica to have fun and cool down this summer.

Raft on the Rio Grande

One of Jamaica’s most popular attractions is the Rio Grande rafting experience. I’m yet to do it but it’s on my bucket list.

The rafting tour can last up to 3 hours and rafts can carry 2 adults and 1 small child.

Beach hop

A personal favourite of mine. Plan a trip with your friends to a beach you’ve never been to or several beaches in close proximity. Luckily for me, Jamaica has many beaches for me to choose from.

Here’s a list of beaches you can try this summer:

Lime Cay                      Port Royal

Frenchman’’s Cove        Port Antonio, Portland

Bamboo Beach Club      Ocho Rios, St. Ann

Boardwalk Beach           Portmore, St, Catherine

Sugarman’s Beach         Portmore, St, Catherine

Fort Clarence Beach      Portmore, St, Catherine

Hellshire Beach             Portmore, St, Catherine

7 Miles Beach               Negril, Westmoreland

Doctor’s Cave Beach     Montego Bay, St. James

Aquasol Beach              Montego Bay, St. James

San San Beach             Port Antonio, Portland

Dunn’s River                 St. Ann

Prospect Beach             St. Thomas

James Bond Beach        St. Mary

Seek out a river

Jamaica is a lovely island with lots of hidden gems. From caves to rivers if you follow the stream you can almost always find a river gushing with water. As the temperatures rise, river bathing can be the perfect escape.

For those of us who don’t particularly enjoy the salinity of the beach, trying a river can be a refreshing alternative.

Enjoy frozen desserts all day

Get a cone of Devon House ice cream after a long week. If you’re a visitor, it’s a must try. If regular ice cream is too plain for you, try fried ice cream from Rolly Polly or any of the number of new fried ice cream spots. Here’s a list of some of the ice cream storefronts you could try:

Rolly Polly

Tai tai Ice Cream Rolls

Also don’t forget, if you’re looking for a healthier option you can get frozen yogurt.

Candycraze

Tutti Frutti

Fruitalicious

Attend a food festival

Summer time in Jamaica equals food festivals. Truthfully, food festivals happen all year round locally but it’s definitely something to look forward to during the summer. I’m planning on attending my first food festival this summer. Kingston kitchen at Hope gardens to be exact. I hope to see some of you there.

Take a hike, no really take a hike to the Blue Mountains

The heat has you hallucinating? It’s time to take a trip to the cool blue mountain peak. While the trek to the peak is no easy feat the cool fresh air is a welcomed relief from the heat in the city. Your best bet is to make it a weekend adventure. Climb to the peak or as near as you can handle, send a night or two to recover and bask in the temperature difference then head home to reality.

I hope this list helps you decide what you’ll be doing this summer. If I missed something let me know in the comments below.

Have a great week.
