2019 Year In Review

I think year reviews are typically done in January but I’m going to do mine now. It’s my birthday after all and I can do what I want.

2019 was a hell of a year. It had its ups and downs. There were many tears and triumphs, too many to list or name now but I’ll do my best to give you a summary of my year as it comes to a close.

The Sunny Side Ja Year in Review

This year I started an Instagram page for the Sunny Side Ja and we’ve grown to 140 followers. Content isn’t always easy to come by to post and remain active on that platform but I’m proud of myself for maintaining the page aesthetic. I hope you guys enjoy it too. For 2020 I’d love to get to at 1000 organic and genuine followers so if you’d like to stay connected with me and see what’s going on before it hits the blog go follow me @thesunnysideja . It’s also where I can get your input on what you’d like to see on the blog. I want to hear from you so follow me.

Blog views

2019 was a great year for blog views, October was our best month with over 1500 views and over 1100 visitors which just means quite a few of you liked my content enough to stick around and look at other posts. For this, I say thank you to you all.

Some of the top-performing blog posts are:

My Top Netflix Recommendation

Blog partnerships

This year I had my first brand partnerships. A special thanks goes out to Firmoo, Pizza Please, and Land Rover Jamaica and AtoZ wigs who partnered with me this year to give my readers useful and entertaining content.

Despite wanting to work with brands that was not a primary goal I had set for myself this year and I’m extremely pleased that I had the opportunity to work with as many brands as I did all the same.

Not only did I have brand partnerships but The Sunny Side Ja joined forces with the big, bad Damajority.com as a contributor and it’s been a fruitful partnership. Hi Nigel, if you’re reading this I’ll be sending you more posts in 2020. If you’re from the Caribbean and don’t know about damajority.com head on over to the website and check them out.

Blog schedule

I cannot close out the blog review without apologizing to you my readers for the slow-down in blog posts toward the end of 2019. As some of you may know I had a life-changing event occur in august of this year and it will require a lot of my attention for the next few months. For 2020 there will be a posting schedule change. One that will be more feasible for me at this juncture of my life.

2019 Beauty Favourites

This wouldn’t be a year in review without a list of my favourites. Of course, I’ll be sharing my 2019 favourites in another, more detailed post but 2019 gave me a few of my favourite beauty products ever.

Taliah Waajid Curly Curl Cream

Taliah Waajid Repair and Restore Masque

Simply Luxe Botanicals Glow Bar (say you saw it on @thesunnysideja and get 15% off)

Cantu Coconut Curling Cream

Of course, my regular staples are still holding me down:

St Ives Apricot Scrub Fresh Skin

Crème of Nature Moisture and Shine Shampoo

Queen Helene Mint Julep Mask

Favourite adventures

Last month I took a trip to Westmoreland for the first time. I dare say I did quite a bit of parish hopping this year. Passed through Holland Bamboo in St Elizabeth, waded in the water at Frenchman’s cove in Portland, journeyed through the Green Grotto caves in St Ann.

Took on two food festivals this year and loved them both.

My year was fully lived. How was your 2019 year in review? Think about all you did, all the places you saw and all the challenges you conquered.
