Bacne Be Gone: Cerave SA Body Wash Review

Skincare doesn’t start and end with the face. The skin on the other parts of your body needs love too. If you experience body acne you may know that already. Luckily there are lots of great products that target body acne. The hard part is picking the ones that work the best. That’s where Cerave SA Body Wash comes in.  Spoiler alert: it works!

First impression

The Cerave SA Body Wash is a fragrance-free body wash with niacinamide, ceramides and salicylic acid. The salicylic acid works to unclog the pores. While the niacinamide helps reduce oil production and the ceramides help restore healthy skin barrier function.

After trying out the Neutrogena SA body wash before this one I’ve noticed a few differences between the two products. After using the Neutrogena body wash my skin was dry and my body acne was worse. I really do think my skin was sensitive to the microbeads included in the product as well as the fragrance. Instead of calming my skin, I’d get angry, red pimples on my chest and back.

Compared to my miserable experience with the Neutrogena Body Wash, Cerave has been a godsend. From a formula perspective, Cerave has better ingredients. The ingredients work together to not only tackle the body acne but it includes ingredients that reduce irritation and balance the skin. After using it for a few showers I quickly realized that the grapefruit, exfoliating beads and salicylic acid formulation of the Neutrogena body wash were definitely irritating to me.

Cerave’s SA Body Wash lathers nicely and doesn’t leave my skin incredibly dry. I have dry skin so feeling dry after a shower is typical for me. Products that leave my skin even slightly less dry are commended. My skin is also noticeably softer immediately after each use.

It’s also important to note that this body wash is fragrance-free and comes in a clear formulation.

How do I use it?

I use this body wash about every 3 days or as needed. So far I’m still on my first bottle and I expect that it will last me quite some time. The product instructions say to wet skin with lukewarm water, massage cleanser into the skin in a gentle, circular motion then rinse.

Final thoughts

Cerave’s body wash is a gentle formulation I’d recommend for anyone dealing with mild body acne. If you’re looking to really zap those zits in their tracks I’d suggest trying Panoxyl Foaming Cleanser for face, chest and back acne. I do love that this body wash includes other skin-nourishing ingredients like niacinamide and ceramides. The average body wash doesn’t offer that. So if you’re looking for a gentle cleanser to keep your pores clear and skin soft this Cerave body wash is a good buy.
