3 Step Skincare Routine For Men On The Go

A friend of mine requested this as a video content idea but I love to write and this is one of the best ways for me to make a list of product recommendations.
While skincare for men is not dramatically different from a woman’s, I got you for those who would rather just have a few staple products in their stash that works. Here’s a 3 step skincare routine for men on the go.
Step 1: Know your skin type
Now before we start I have to break down skin types. Before delving into products knowing your skin will be the first step towards a successful skincare routine.
Skincare products target skin concerns, and knowing your skin type helps you to define those concerns. Is your skin dry and flaky or does it always appear shiny and greasy? If you experience persistent dryness you have dry skin and if your nickname is slick Rick because of your skin you may just have oily skin.
But apart from these two categories, some people fall in the normal category. This means your skin is neither dry nor oily without reason.

Step 2: Use the right products for your skin
If you have normal skin, a gentle cleanser, light moisturizer and sunscreen are three easy steps your morning routine would include. At night, you can ditch the sunscreen.
Normal Skin Routine
Cerave has a wide range of skincare products that work well for each skin type. This crowd-favourite brand is a safe starting place for skin beginners.
For persons with normal skin, Cerave’s Foaming Facial Cleanser will get the job done. Follow up after cleansing with The Ordinary’s Moisturing Factors moisturizer. At night you’d stop there but if you’re heading out in the daytime be sure to add sunscreen.
For sunscreen, the options come in two main variations chemical and mineral. While some schools of thought believe mineral sunscreen is superior the general consensus is that any sunscreen is better than none. So for sunscreen, my usual recommendation is any non-comedogenic sunscreen. Neutrogena has several good options including the hydroboost water gel sunscreen.
Dry Skin Routine
When it comes to dry skin the keyword for your skincare routine should be hydration. Including hydrating ingredients will help to balance your skin and improve your overall skin health.
The steps in your routine won’t differ much from your normal and oily counterparts but your ingredients will.

Then moisturize with The Ordinary’s Moisturing Factors moisturizer. This moisturizer includes hyaluronic acid, a hydrating ingredient that helps skin stretch and flex and reduces skin wrinkles and lines. Don’t forget to complete your daytime routine with a moisturizing sun cream like A’PIEU Pure Block Daily Sunscreen Cream.
Oily Skin Routine
This final 3 step skincare routine for men focuses on combatting oil production.
If you’re an oily, acne-prone guy your routine should begin with a cleanse with a choice of two acne-fighting ingredients, benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid. Panoxyl’s Creamy Acne Wash is a personal favourite of mine but Cerave’s Renewing SA Cleanser also has great reviews. Lock in the balancing moisture your skin needs with PanOxyl Oil Control Daily Moisturizer and finish up with Paula’s Choice Face & Body Sunscreen for your time during the day.
