How To Smell Great All Day

Let’s talk body odour. No one wants to wreak of unpleasant scents but the business of smelling good can be tricky. It’s all about body chemistry. Our bodies though made similarly have varying reactions to fragrance. For some of us fragrance is a no go while for others fragrance is well received by the skin. Whichever category you fall in here are some tips to help you smell great all day.

What causes body odor?

According to Cleveland Clinic, body odour happens when bacteria on your skin come in contact with sweat. Our skin is naturally covered with bacteria. When we sweat, the water, salt and fat mix with this bacteria and can cause odour.

To combat body odour the number one piece of advice is to keep the skin clean with daily showers or baths with antibacterial soap.

In addition to enjoying skin-clarifying showers, there are a few additional steps you can take to ensure that you smell great all day.

Step 1: Exfoliate 2-3x a week

Exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate. Get rid of those dead skin cells that can trap bacteria and cause unflattering smells. Exfoliating your skin has a myriad of benefits. It helps you reveal smoother skin, reduces the appearance of blemishes over time and can even boost circulation and lymphatic drainage.

There’s a wide range of exfoliating products on the market. For a self-care beginner, this can be overwhelming but there are a few highly recommended brands that you just can’t go wrong with.

Tree Hut is a popular brand for physical exfoliation with an extensive line of scented sugar body scrubs. These sugar scrubs are great at removing the dead skin cells that may cause body odour. For a deeper exfoliating experience; one that dives into unclogging pores and tackling body issues like hyperpigmentation and roughness Skinfix’s Resurface+ Glycolic and Lactic Acid Renewing Body Scrub is a good alternative to Tree Hut.

Step 2: Practice good hygiene

The key to smelling great is being clean. A body free of unhealthy bacteria should have a pleasant smell. For those allergic to fragrance cleanse with a gentle fragrance-free body cleanser and moisturize with a fragrance-free lotion. Follow up your post-shower routine with a deodorant you enjoy

I like using the Caress body washes for a good clean in the mornings and at night I swap that out for the Cerave SA body wash as a skin treatment.

Step 3: Shop products that help you smell great

Caress Body Washes

The Caress line of body washes is known for its long-lasting and fragrant scents. Without any other product, these body washes leave your skin hydrated, soft and smelling like a field of flowers. The scents are intoxicating and after trying several brands over the past two years I’ve settled on Caress as my go-to daily body wash.

EOS Body Cream

After thoroughly cleansing the skin with a fragrant body wash like Caress I turn to a product specially formulated to target dry skin. The EOS Vanilla Cashmere body cream adds another level of complimentary fragrance to the body for long-lasting freshness. It also helps that I carry around the EOS Vanilla Cashmere hand cream for use throughout the day.

Complimentary fragrance

To complete my routine recently I’ve gotten into layering fragrances to boost my overall scent. My signature scent over the past few months has been the Rebl Fleur Eau de Parfum from Rihanna. But after some mishap with the scents’ dry down affecting certain clothing pieces, I’m moving away from the Rebl perfume.

Instead, I’m more interested in naturally occurring fragrances like vanilla. And yes this has everything to do with my experience with the EOS body cream with the vanilla cashmere scent. This body cream is so deliciously fragrant that I wanted to continue smelling like that all day. The EOS body cream does a good job of smelling great for about 2- 3 hours but to amplify that I needed to add perfumes with a similar scent profile to my routine.

I haven’t found my new signature scent yet but I’m testing out warm vanilla fragrances from Bath and Body Works to see learn how my body chemistry matches and how I enjoy the fragrance notes.
