Pregnancy Safe Skincare: Here’s Everything I Used During Pregnancy for My Acne

Pregnancy comes with a lot of changes, and for me, that included my skin. Acne has been a long-time battle, and I knew I needed to be extra mindful of what I used while growing my little one. The good news? I found a pregnancy safe skincare routine that kept my breakouts in check. Here’s the lineup of products that worked for me!

Cerave Foaming Facial Cleanser

My go-to morning cleanser. It’s super gentle yet effective, removing excess oil and grime without leaving my skin feeling tight or stripped. It was the perfect way to refresh my skin in the mornings. It contains ceramides and niacinamide, which help maintain the skin barrier and soothe irritation—key for sensitive pregnancy skin.

Panoxyl foaming wash

Panoxyl Foaming Wash 10%

This was my nighttime warrior. I’ve been using this before pregnancy, and thankfully, I could continue during pregnancy too. The benzoyl peroxide worked wonders in keeping my acne under control while being safe to use. The 10% benzoyl peroxide works as an antimicrobial agent, reducing acne-causing bacteria on the skin while minimizing inflammation. Studies show that benzoyl peroxide is considered safe in pregnancy when used in moderation.

Niacinamide Brightening Toner

Good Molecules Niacinamide Brightening Toner

This toner never left my routine. It’s lightweight, hydrating, and helped keep my skin balanced. Plus, the niacinamide worked to calm redness and even out my complexion. Niacinamide, a form of vitamin B3, is known for its ability to regulate sebum production, improve skin texture, and reduce redness—perfect for pregnancy-related skin changes.

Dark spots? Not on my watch! This serum was my go-to for fading hyperpigmentation and keeping my skin tone even. Pregnancy-safe and effective—a win-win! It contains tranexamic acid, which research has shown to be effective in reducing melasma and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation without irritation—important for those with sensitive pregnancy skin.

Superfood air-whip moisture cream

Youth to the People Superfood Air-Whip Moisture Cream

Lightweight yet deeply hydrating, this moisturizer gave my skin all the nourishment it needed without feeling heavy or greasy. Bonus: It layers beautifully under sunscreen and makeup. Packed with antioxidant-rich superfoods like kale, spinach, and green tea, it helps protect the skin from environmental stressors while maintaining hydration levels.

Paula’s Choice 2% BHA Liquid Exfoliant

I kept this in my routine, but only once a week. It helped clear up stubborn blackheads and left my skin looking radiant. A little goes a long way with this one! Salicylic acid (BHA) is typically avoided in high concentrations during pregnancy, but low doses, like in this product, are considered safe. It works by gently exfoliating inside the pores to remove debris and prevent breakouts.

Pregnancy-safe skincare doesn’t have to be complicated, and I’m so happy most of the products I typically use could stay in my routine. If you’re navigating pregnancy acne, I hope this list helps you find a routine that keeps your skin happy and glowing!
